Pellets production method
Raw materials
Wood pellet production begins with the generation of raw materials. In most cases, these raw materials are byproducts of other wood processing operations. One example is hardwood flooring plants: they produce a lot of clean, dry sawdust and small scraps during production. These byproducts are ideal raw materials for pellet production; however, with the growing interest in pellet production, some plants are starting to source pellet raw materials directly from trees.
Drying
The pellet raw materials must be uniformly dried to a low moisture content. Due to the high temperatures and pressures during the manufacturing process, too much moisture can cause problems such as poor compaction of pellets (resulting in dust in the final product). However, this low-moisture wood pellet making machine is the core equipment of the wood pellet production line. Therefore, investing in wood pellet machine equipment requires more caution, especially for beginners.

Processing materials
After the raw materials are dried, they are fed into a hammer mill to produce wood pellets of uniform size. This process helps to make the pellets uniform in density, thereby providing a consistent calorific value.
Pellets formation
The pellets are extruded using special dies. During this process, high pressure and temperature are generated, which soften the lignin in the wood and bind the materials in the pellets together. No additional binder is required, but sometimes a small amount of lubricant may be added to improve processing.
Once the pellets are formed and cooled, they are either bagged or stored in bulk. Most residential pellet users purchase pellets by the ton, with each ton consisting of several bags loaded on a pallet. Pellets may also be placed in small silos outside the user's home by a delivery truck. Pellets can be stored indefinitely, but must be kept dry to prevent deterioration.
