Notes on Disassembly and Assembly of a Biomass Fuel Pellet Machine
Introduction
Disassembly and assembly of a biomass fuel pellet machine is routine maintenance for replacing the pressure wheel, the mold, or the roller bearings, but it must be done in the right order to avoid damage and injury. The general rule is to remove only what the job requires, use lifting aids for heavy assemblies, and re-assemble in reverse order with clean mating surfaces. This guide explains the notes that experienced technicians follow.
For inspection only, keep the feed cover on and use the observation window on the pelletizing chamber.
To change the pressure wheel or mold: remove the feed cover and pressure wheel bin, then the locking nut on the main shaft.
Lift the pressure wheel assembly with a lifting belt; flip the die using lifting screws in the process holes.
For roller skin or bearing replacement, drive the bearing out from inside to outside and keep the wheel bore clean.
Re-assemble in reverse order, clean or replace parts as needed, and run the machine idle before production.
1. Inspection Without Full Disassembly
Generally, there is no need to remove the feed cover for routine inspection. Open the observation window on the pelletizing chamber to check the working condition of the pressure wheel. This keeps dust out of the mechanism, preserves the alignment of the feed system, and turns a five-minute check into exactly that, instead of a half-day teardown.
2. Replacing the Pressure Wheel or the Mold
When the pressure wheel or the mold must be replaced, the procedure starts with the feed cover and the pressure wheel bin. Unscrew the screws and nuts on them, then unscrew the locking nut on the main shaft. Lift the pressure wheel assembly with a lifting belt and move it out of the pressure wheel bin, keeping the assembly level so the bearings are not side-loaded. Then screw two lifting screws into the process holes on the mold plate, lift it with a lifting belt, and turn the other side of the mold over for use, which doubles the working life of a double-sided die. Never pry on the die face; use the process holes and lifting screws as designed.
3. Replacing the Roller Skin or Pressure Wheel Bearing
If the pressure wheel skin or the pressure wheel bearing needs replacement, remove the outer sealing cover on the pressure wheel, remove the round nut on the pressure wheel shaft, and drive the pressure wheel bearing out from the inside to the outside. After the bearing is removed, decide whether to replace it or clean it with diesel for reuse. Keep the inner hole of the pressure wheel clean, because any debris left in the bore will misalign the new bearing and shorten its life immediately. Then install the pressure wheel assembly in reverse order, tightening the round nut to the specified torque.
4. Re-Assembly and Run-In
Re-assembly is the reverse of disassembly, with three checks added. First, verify that all locking nuts are torqued to specification, because a loose main-shaft nut is the classic cause of later wobble. Second, confirm the roller-to-die contact is correct before closing the chamber. Third, run the machine idle for 3-5 minutes and listen for abnormal noise before feeding material. Biomass fuel pellet machines are being used more and more widely because of their efficiency, but the machines work reliably only when maintenance, including disassembly and assembly, is done properly.
5. Common Pitfalls to Avoid
Three mistakes account for most assembly damage. Lifting the pressure wheel assembly without a lifting belt stresses the bearings and can drop the assembly. Prying the die out instead of using lifting screws scores the die face and ruins the working surface. And re-assembling without cleaning the bearing bores embeds debris that destroys the new bearing within hours. All three are avoidable with the correct procedure.
