There are many types of wood chippers, and you can choose according to your actual needs.

Drum Chipper
The first type is the drum chipper. It is a chipper with a large horizontal drum and blades. These blades are located inside the drum and are set at regular intervals. This type of wood chipper is good for handling larger loads and fibrous materials. The disadvantages of this type of wood chipper are that it requires a lot of energy and the size of the wood chips is not uniform.
Disc Chipper
The second type we are going to discuss is the disc chipper. This chipper has a vertical disc with inline blades that cut the wood at a 45 degree angle. This type of wood chipper is fast and energy efficient. Also, it cuts uniform wood chips! It is good for smaller branches but not for fibrous materials.

Auger Chipper
The third type is called the Auger Chipper. The blades of this type of chipper are shaped like a large screw. The rotating mechanism of these blades helps to pull the wood through the chipper. The advantage of this type of chipper is that it produces uniform wood chips. To change the size of the wood chips, this type of chipper requires you to change the blades.
PTO Wood Chipper
This type of wood chipper does not have its own engine. They are connected to the drive shaft of the tractor and get the power from there to chip the wood and plants.
This is a variety of wood chippers. They are driven by a gas engine (indirectly). The biggest disadvantage of this type of wood chipper is that they work only when they are connected to a tractor or any other such vehicle.

Electric Wood Chippers
Electric chippers are typically small wood chippers. They are compact and can be powered using a standard household outlet. Since there is no engine to power them, you can operate an electric start chipper in a smaller space. While electric chippers don't have the same power as gas engines, they require less maintenance and don't produce any exhaust fumes. Due to their smaller size, they are typically only able to chip branches up to 1 inch in diameter, so it's important to consider the type of material diameter you're looking to shred. It's also important to note that electric chippers require a tamper to safely feed the material into the hopper.
Gas Powered Wood Chippers
Gas powered chippers use an internal gas engine to chop and chip the wood. They offer a horizontal chute and either a gravity feed or hydraulic feed system. Gas chippers are typically very portable and can be pushed by hand or using a simple tow device. Gas chippers also come in a variety of models, such as gas-only chippers, gas chipper shredders, and even gas chipper shredder vacuums.
