What Raw Materials Are Needed for Producing Wood Pellets with a Vertical ring die pellet mill machine?
content
Wood pellet processing equipment uses various biomass wastes as its core raw material, eliminating the need for virgin wood and reducing costs while achieving resource recycling-a key advantage of biomass fuel pellet machines. Mainstream raw materials can be categorized into three main types: forestry waste, agricultural waste, and processing scraps, adapting to different models of homemade wood pellet presses and production needs. Forestry waste is the most commonly used raw material, including wood chips, sawdust, branches, stumps, and bark. Wood chips and sawdust are ideal due to their uniform particle size and high fiber content, requiring no excessive crushing before processing into wood pellet machines. The pelleting rate can reach over 95%, producing pellets with a calorific value of approximately 4200-4500 kcal/kg, widely used in heating and power generation.
Branches and stumps need to be crushed to a particle size of 2-5mm before use. Bark, due to its high wax content, is slightly more difficult to process alone; it is recommended to mix it with wood chips in a 1:3 ratio to reduce processing difficulty and improve pellet fire resistance. Agricultural waste is also an important raw material supplement, including straw, peanut shells, corn cobs, and rice husks. These raw materials are widely available and extremely low in cost, making them suitable for small-scale wood pellet production lines in rural areas. However, straw and peanut shells have low fiber content and loose texture, and processing them alone can easily lead to poor shaping and insufficient density. They need to be mixed with 20%-30% wood chips for processing, while adjusting the pressure of the pressure rollers and the die gap of the biomass fuel pellet machine to ensure pellet quality.
Wood processing scraps (such as scraps and shavings from furniture factories and board factories) are also high-quality raw materials. These raw materials have high purity and stable moisture content, resulting in high-density and high-calorific-value pellets, suitable for high-end wood pellet production. It should be noted that board scraps with high glue content are not recommended for use, as they release harmful gases when burned, failing to meet environmental standards. In addition, some special raw materials (such as palm shells and coconut shells) require a dedicated wood pellet grinding machine because their high hardness causes rapid wear on ordinary flat die machines; wear-resistant dies and pressure rollers are necessary.
The compatibility of different raw materials needs to be adjusted according to the model of the wood pellet extruder machine. Small household models are suitable for processing fine raw materials such as wood chips and sawdust, while large industrial models can be compatible with mixed raw materials and materials with higher hardness. Producers need to select raw materials according to their own equipment and market demand to maximize efficiency.
