What are the first two steps of the wood pellet production line?

Raw Material Preparation
- The production line starts with the collection of raw materials, which are usually wood residues such as sawdust, wood shavings, and small wood chips. These materials are first screened to remove any impurities like stones, metal pieces, and large debris. Then, they may go through a drying process if the moisture content is too high. High - moisture raw materials can affect the quality of the final pellets and the efficiency of the production process. For example, using a rotary dryer, the moisture content of the raw materials can be reduced to an optimal level, typically around 10 - 15%.
Pelletizing Process
- After the raw materials are properly prepared, they are fed into the pellet mill. The pellet mill is the core equipment of the production line. Inside the pellet mill, there are rollers and dies. The raw material is forced through the small holes in the die by the pressure exerted by the rollers. As the material passes through the die holes, it takes on the shape of a pellet. The size of the die holes determines the diameter of the pellets, and common diameters range from 6mm to 12mm. The pressure and temperature during the pelletizing process can also affect the density and quality of the pellets.
