What are some low-cost alternative raw materials suitable for small biomass pellet making machines?

One of the core advantages of electric wood pellet makers in producing wood pellets is their ability to utilize low-cost waste materials. Besides traditional sawdust and wood chips, various agricultural wastes and industrial scraps can be used as substitutes, reducing costs and broadening raw material sources. Among agricultural waste substitutes, straw (corn straw, wheat straw), peanut shells, and corn cobs are the most cost-effective choices. These materials are readily available in rural areas, with a purchase price of only 100-200 yuan/ton, far lower than sawdust (300-400 yuan/ton). However, straw and peanut shells have low fiber content and loose texture, making them difficult to process into pellets alone. They need to be mixed with 20%-30% sawdust, and the pressure of the pellet mill's rollers (increased to 8-12MPa) and the die aperture (selected as 8-10mm) must be adjusted to ensure the pellet forming rate and density meet standards.

Industrial scrap materials for electric wood pellet mills include furniture factory shavings, paper mill pulp residue, and sawdust from board plants. These materials are mostly industrial waste, with extremely low procurement costs, and some can even be obtained for free. Furniture factory shavings have high purity and stable fiber content, with compatibility similar to wood chips, and can be processed directly or mixed in small quantities. Paper mill pulp residue needs to be dehydrated to a moisture content of 12%-15% before being mixed with 15% wood chips to avoid loose particles due to excessively fine fibers. Board plant sawdust needs to be screened to remove glue-containing impurities; pure wood sawdust can be processed directly, offering excellent cost-effectiveness.

Urban greening waste (pruned branches and fallen leaves) is also a high-quality alternative raw material for biofuel pellet making machines. With the expansion of urban greening, the output of this type of waste has surged, with low processing costs and a stable source. Branches need to be crushed to a particle size of 2-5mm, and fallen leaves are mixed with wood chips in a 1:2 ratio. The cellulose in fallen leaves improves particle cohesion while reducing raw material costs. It is important to note that green waste must be thoroughly cleaned to remove impurities, preventing stones and plastic bags from contaminating the wood pellet machine and damaging it.

When using low-cost alternative raw materials, the parameters of the biomass fuel pellet machine need to be adjusted according to the characteristics of the raw materials. If necessary, a small amount of binder (such as starch or lignin powder) can be added to improve the pelleting effect. At the same time, the proportion of alternative raw materials must be controlled, not exceeding 70% of the total raw materials, to ensure that the pellet's calorific value and combustion performance meet standards, balancing cost and quality.
