How to select high-quality wood pellet raw materials?
content
The selection of raw materials for vertical ring die pellet mill machines revolves around three key indicators: high fiber content, high purity, and stable moisture content. Prioritizing materials with strong adaptability and low processing costs is crucial for improving the production efficiency of small wood fuel pellet making machines for home use. Fiber content is a core indicator; the formation of wood pellets depends on lignin in the raw materials. Higher fiber content results in better forming results and higher pellet strength. Among forestry raw materials, hardwood (oak, birch) sawdust has a fiber content of over 60%, producing high-density, high-calorific-value (over 4500 kcal/kg) pellets with long burning time, making it the preferred raw material for high-end pellets. Softwood (pine, fir) sawdust has a slightly lower fiber content (50%-55%) but a higher oil content, resulting in better combustion efficiency, making it suitable for general heating applications.
The purity of raw materials directly affects pellet quality. Priority should be given to raw materials free from mold, odor, and impurities. Avoid using wood processing waste containing glue, paint, or chemical additives (such as scraps from painted boards and plywood chips). These materials release harmful gases like formaldehyde and benzene when burned, failing to meet environmental standards and corroding the molds of the small biomass pellet maker machine. Simultaneously, the content of bark and sand in the raw materials must be controlled; bark should not exceed 10%, and sand content should not exceed 1%. Excessive amounts will reduce pellet purity and calorific value, and accelerate equipment wear.
Moisture stability is also a crucial selection criterion. Prioritize raw materials with a moisture content of 12%-15%. If the moisture content fluctuates significantly, additional drying or water replenishment equipment is required, increasing processing costs. For fresh, wet raw materials (such as freshly crushed branches and straw), the compatibility with drying equipment must be confirmed. For dry raw materials (such as long-stored sawdust), it is necessary to check for secondary moisture absorption to avoid production disruptions due to moisture issues.
Cost and supply stability must be balanced. Small wood fuel pellet making machines can use locally available raw materials (such as rural straw and wood chips from wood processing plants) to reduce transportation costs. Large-scale production lines need to sign long-term agreements with raw material suppliers to ensure a stable supply of raw materials, while also using a variety of raw materials for mixed processing to balance quality and cost. In addition, small-batch trial production can be used to verify the compatibility of raw materials, observe pellet formation rate, density and combustion effect, and then determine a large-scale procurement plan to avoid losses caused by incompatible raw materials.
