Key Tips for Compressing Wood Chips with a Small Biomass Briquette Machine
Small wood chip briquette press machines can stably compress wood chips, but specific adaptation conditions and proper pretreatment are required. This is a prerequisite for ensuring compression effectiveness and a key difference from the pretreatment process of large wood chip briquette machines.
Influencing factors
1. Regarding particle size adaptation, due to the smaller die size and limited pressure transmission range of small equipment, the wood chip particle size needs to be controlled between 2-8mm, with 3-5mm being the optimal compression particle size. This ensures sufficient exposure and softening of lignin while avoiding jamming and uneven molding caused by excessive particle size. If the wood chip particles are too large (over 8mm), secondary crushing with a small pulverizer is necessary; if the particles are too fine (below 1mm), it will increase compression resistance, accelerate equipment wear, and reduce the air permeability of the briquettes.

2. Moisture content is a key indicator affecting compression effectiveness. The optimal wood chip moisture content range for small wood shavings briquette maker machines is 8%-15%, with an optimal value of around 12%. When the moisture content is too high, the sawdust easily sticks to the feed channel and die holes, causing cracking, loosening, and even clogging of the equipment during compression. When the moisture content is too low, the lignin is difficult to soften sufficiently, resulting in poor briquette cohesion and easy breakage. During pretreatment, wet sawdust can be naturally air-dried or dried in a small dryer. For dry sawdust, a light spray of water can be used to adjust the moisture content; the criterion is that "the sawdust can be clumped when squeezed in the hand, but easily crumbles when released with a light touch, leaving no obvious water residue."

3. The purity of the sawdust must be strictly controlled. Before compression, hard impurities such as stones, metal fragments, and glass must be removed. These impurities will severely wear down the pressure rollers, die holes, and other vulnerable parts of the small wood waste briquette machine, and may even cause the main shaft to bend, affecting the equipment's lifespan. At the same time, moldy and rotten sawdust must be removed. This type of sawdust not only reduces the calorific value of the briquettes but may also produce odors during compression and affect combustion performance. Sawdust containing a small amount of bark can be compressed directly, but the bark content should not exceed 10%, as excessive bark will reduce the briquette density.
In addition, the fiber content of wood chips also affects the compression effect. Softwood (pine, fir) wood chips have a high fiber content and good compressibility, making them suitable for small wood dust briquetting machines. Hardwood wood chips have a slightly lower fiber content and can be mixed with 10%-20% sawdust to improve binding properties. Pre-treated wood chips need to be compressed as soon as possible and stored for no more than 24 hours to avoid secondary moisture absorption and ensure the compression efficiency and product quality of the small wood chip briquetting machine remain stable.
