Long-term storage of fuel produced by electric wood pellet makers requires a three-pronged approach: controlling the production source, using specialized storage equipment, and implementing scientific environmental control. The core principles are reducing pellet moisture content, eliminating moisture sources, and controlling storage temperature. First, controlling the production source is fundamental for long-term storage. During production, the raw material moisture content must be strictly controlled between 12% and 14%. This is achieved by optimizing the pressing parameters of the electric wood pellet mill (increasing extrusion pressure and adjusting cutter speed) to improve pellet density and hardness. Higher density pellets have a more compact structure and lower moisture absorption. The finished product must be thoroughly cooled in a cooler to ensure a temperature ≤20℃ and a moisture content ≤10%. A secondary drying process using a drying device can further reduce moisture content and improve storage stability. Simultaneously, thorough impurity removal during production is crucial to prevent contamination that could lead to mold growth and insect infestation.
Second, selecting specialized storage equipment is essential. Long-term storage necessitates abandoning simple storage methods and employing specialized equipment with better airtightness and moisture resistance. For small-batch, long-term storage (1-3 tons), vacuum-sealed bags and a temperature-controlled warehouse are recommended. After cooling and drying, the granules are placed in vacuum-sealed bags, vacuum-sealed, and then isolated from air and moisture. The warehouse should be equipped with temperature control equipment to maintain the temperature between 15-25℃, preventing excessive temperature fluctuations that could cause thermal expansion and contraction of the granules. For large-batch, long-term storage (over 10 tons), a sealed storage silo with dehumidification, ventilation, and temperature monitoring systems is required. The silo body should be made of heat-insulating and moisture-proof materials, with moisture-proof and ventilated grates at the bottom and exhaust vents and rain caps at the top. An industrial dehumidifier and blower should be provided to regulate the humidity (≤55%) and temperature (≤25℃) in real time. Multiple temperature sensors should be installed inside the silo to regularly monitor the temperature in different areas and prevent localized heat generation.
Finally, scientific environmental control and regular maintenance are crucial. During long-term storage, the temperature and humidity of the storage environment must be monitored regularly, at least twice a month. If the humidity exceeds the standard, the dehumidifier should be activated immediately; if the temperature rises, the ventilation system should be activated to cool it down. Regularly check the sealing performance of storage containers. Replace any damaged sealing materials promptly. Conduct monthly sampling inspections of the pellets to check for signs of moisture absorption or mold. If minor issues are found, take measures such as airing and ventilation to address them. Furthermore, for long-term storage, the pellet stack height should not be too high. Small batches should not be stacked more than two layers high, and large batches should not be stacked more than 2.5 meters high to prevent the bottom pellets from being crushed and absorbing moisture due to prolonged compression.
Additional tips for long-term storage in northern winters: Northern winters are cold and dry, suitable for long-term storage, but care must be taken to prevent freeze-thaw damage to the pellets. The storage area should be properly insulated to prevent repeated freeze-thaw cycles (freezing and thawing) that could damage the structure. When retrieving fuel, try to do so indoors to avoid moisture absorption due to large temperature differences in low-temperature environments. If the storage area lacks insulation equipment, cover the outside of the pellet stack with insulating cotton to reduce the impact of temperature fluctuations. Using the above methods, fuel produced by an industrial wood pellet mill can be stably stored for 12-18 months while maintaining good combustion performance.
