Wood Shavings Briquette Maker vs Wood Chip Pellet Making Machine: Key Differences
content
The most fundamental difference between the two lies in the molding pressure and temperature control, which are also the essential differences in their working mechanisms. Press briquette machines require 10-30 MPa of high pressure to achieve block molding and must be equipped with a heating device to control the molding chamber temperature at 160-200℃. This high temperature softens the lignin, and the high pressure achieves dense molding. Without the heating element, the sawdust is difficult to bind into blocks, resulting in a loose finished product. In contrast, electric wood pellet mills operate at only 5-15 MPa, lower than briquette machines. Most models do not require forced heating; they rely solely on the friction between the pressure rollers and the mold to generate heat, softening the lignin and molding it.
Auxiliary heating is only needed when processing raw materials with low moisture content or low fiber content, making the workflow simpler.
The differences in working parameters and finished product characteristics stem from the different molding mechanisms of the two machines. In terms of raw material requirements, corn stalk briquette making machines have stricter moisture content control (8%-12%) and a wider particle size range (2-8mm); small biomass pellet making machines have a wider moisture content adaptability range (12%-15%) and require finer particle size (2-5mm), otherwise, die clogging is likely to occur. Regarding the finished product form, wood briquette machines produce block fuel with a diameter of 20-50mm and a length of 5-20cm, with higher density (1.1-1.3g/cm³) and longer burning time, with a single block burning for 3-5 hours; wood pellet machines produce pellet fuel with a diameter of 6-12mm and a length 2-4 times the pore size, with good flowability, easy automated feeding, and suitable for large-scale equipment.
There are also differences in equipment efficiency and energy consumption. With the same motor power, mini wood pellet machines have a higher hourly output, with small pellet mills reaching over 500 kg per hour, while small briquetting machines typically output only 200-500 kg per hour. Because briquetting machines require maintaining high pressure and high temperature, their energy consumption is slightly higher than pellet mills, with energy consumption per ton of finished product being 15%-20% higher. Furthermore, the wear and tear on the equipment differs; the pressure rollers and molds of a wood chip briquette press withstand higher pressure, resulting in slightly faster wear than those of a pellet mill, and requiring more frequent routine maintenance.
The difference in their working mechanisms determines their complementary application scenarios. Wood chip briquetting machines are suitable for small to medium-sized heating systems, outdoor barbecues, and machine-made charcoal processing, emphasizing high density and long burning time. Small wood fuel pellet making machines for home use are suitable for large-scale heating systems, biomass generator sets, and large-scale industrial heating, emphasizing fluidity and automation adaptability. The two are not competitors; some processing companies will simultaneously install both types of equipment to produce different forms of fuel according to market demand, maximizing the utilization of raw material resources.
