In the biomass industry, pellet density is the primary measure of quality. High-density pellets (typically >600 kg/m ³) burn longer, produce less dust, and have higher market value. If your wood pellets feel light, look porous, or crumble under slight pressure, your pelletizing system is losing its extrusion efficiency.

Wood pellets gain density through a process called Lignin Activation. Under high pressure and heat (generated by friction in the die), natural lignin in the wood melts and binds the fibers together. Low density occurs when this "binding" process fails due to insufficient heat, pressure, or moisture.
