How to dry damp fuel pellets to prevent damage to biomass fuel pellet machines?
The first method: Hot air drying, suitable for batches of damp pellets, and also the most suitable method for subsequent processing with a biomass wood pellet mill. This dryer can be used in conjunction with a biomass pellet mill, producing pellets with uniform moisture content that can be directly fed into the equipment for processing. Key operating points: First, evenly spread the damp pellets on the drying conveyor belt, controlling the thickness to 3-5 cm to avoid uneven drying due to excessive accumulation; then set the drying temperature to 80-100℃, which quickly dries the moisture without damaging the lignin in the pellets; adjust the drying time according to the degree of moisture: 15-20 minutes for lightly damp pellets, 25-30 minutes for moderately damp pellets, and 35-40 minutes for heavily damp pellets. After drying, check the moisture content to ensure the pellet moisture content returns to the standard range of 12%-15% before feeding it into the biomass pellet mill for processing. One user used this method to process 5 tons of damp pellets, achieving a 92% pellet formation rate after drying, almost indistinguishable from dry pellets.
The second method: Natural air drying, suitable for small quantities of damp pellets, low cost and simple operation. Choose a sunny, well-ventilated location, spread the damp pellets evenly, with a thickness of 2-3 cm, and turn them over every 2 hours to ensure even drying. The drying time should be adjusted according to the weather; generally, 4-6 hours on a sunny day is sufficient. Precautions: Avoid drying on rainy days or in the evening to prevent re-drying; do not expose to direct sunlight, as this will cause the surface of the pellets to dry quickly while preventing internal moisture from escaping, resulting in cracks and easy breakage during subsequent processing. After drying, the pellets should be screened to remove any powdery particles before being fed into a small home use biomass wood pellet mill to prevent clogging of the equipment.
The third method: Drying in a small drying oven, suitable for home or small-scale users processing small quantities of damp pellets. Place the damp pellets in the drying oven, with a layer thickness not exceeding 2 cm, set the temperature to 70-80℃, and the drying time to 10-20 minutes, opening the oven door once during drying to turn them over. The advantage of this method is its fast drying speed and its independence from weather conditions; the disadvantage is its suitability for small batches. After drying, the particles should be cooled to room temperature before being put into the equipment to prevent moisture from condensing and becoming damp again due to temperature changes after the high-temperature particles enter the pressing chamber.
