How Wood pellet machine Combine Wood and Non-Wood Materials for Biomass Pellet Production
content
The scientific blending of wood and non-wood raw materials is key to improving the quality of biomass pellets. This method can compensate for the shortcomings of raw materials; for example, wood raw materials have high calorific value but high cost, while straw raw materials are low cost but have long fibers. Blending achieves a dual optimization of "cost-effectiveness + performance." The processing technology of the small Wood pellet machine provides perfect support for this blended production.
The core of raw material blending is the proportion, which needs to be precisely adjusted according to the product's intended use. In energy pellet production, the recommended blending ratio is 30%-40% wood raw materials, 40%-50% straw raw materials, and 10%-20% shell raw materials. One energy plant used a ratio of 35% sawdust, 45% corn stalks, and 20% peanut shells. After processing with a Wood pellet machine, the pellets achieved a calorific value of 4400 kcal/kg, a forming rate of 93%, and a cost reduction of 30% compared to pure wood pellets. The mixing ratio of feed pellets should prioritize nutritional balance. For example, beef cattle feed can use a ratio of 10% sawdust, 50% alfalfa hay, 30% corn cobs, and 10% wheat bran. The addition of woody materials improves pellet structure and enhances storage resistance.
Raw material pretreatment is fundamental to the mixing process, ensuring consistent particle size and moisture content across different materials. First, all raw materials must be processed into 2-5mm powder using a grinder to avoid uneven mixing due to particle size differences. Second, the moisture content must be uniformly controlled between 12% and 15%. If the straw moisture content is too high (e.g., fresh straw moisture content above 60%), it must be dried first; if the sawdust moisture content is too low (e.g., below 8%), a small amount of water can be sprayed to adjust it. One processing plant neglected to maintain consistent moisture content, resulting in some mixed raw materials clumping and others becoming loose, with a pellet formation rate of only 75%. After adjusting the moisture content, the formation rate increased to 91%.
The parameter settings for the Wood pellet manufacturing process must be adapted to the characteristics of the mixed raw materials. When the fiber content in the mixed raw materials is high (e.g., straw accounts for more than 50%), the equipment speed needs to be increased to 280-300 r/min, and the pressing pressure adjusted to 12-15 MPa to ensure that the fibers are fully extruded and shaped. If the proportion of shell materials is high, the speed can be reduced to 220-250 r/min, and the pressure can be maintained at 10 MPa. The heating temperature is generally controlled at 80-90℃ to fully soften the lignin and pectin in the raw materials and enhance the binding force. At the same time, the forced mixing function of the equipment needs to be activated to ensure that different raw materials are uniformly blended before pressing, avoiding fluctuations in particle properties.
